I tried every cleaning tip & trick for cleaning the grout in my new-to-me home and I finally gave up. I finally decided the only way to make it look new again was to paint the grout with grout paint (I got it at Lowes or Home Depot). The grout paint was easy to apply---you don't have to worry with painting straight lines because the excess paint on the tiles just gets wiped off---the paint adheres only to the grout. The paint has a built-in sealer. Did both my bathroom floors last year and they are still gleaming. Best decision ever.
Any color grout paint will work fine over any color grout. The paint covers exceptionally well. My original grout was beige. I used a light gray paint in one bathroom and a charcoal paint in the other (shown below) Since I couldn't buy the exact color I wanted, I added some acrylic paint into the grout paint to get it the color I wanted. I have scrubbed the floors and regularly steam clean them---the painted grout still looks brand new.
Use Clorox toilet bowl cleaner. The spout on the top allows you to squirt right in the grout groove. Let it set about 15 minutes scrip a belt with a brush ...then mop....clean tile and grout.
I would not recommend this method. I tried this on gray grout on my shower floor. It changed the color to an UGLY beige. Now I need new grout in my shower.
In my practice, sometimes homemade methods cannot give you a good and high-quality result. Consider a local contractor who can do professional grout cleaning in your city.
Hi DB, hope this helps you out. Mix two parts baking soda with one part vinegar. And if you have coarse or fragile tiles, mix two parts baking soda with one part hydrogen peroxide. If desired, you can also use a commercial grout cleaner. Use a grout brush or old toothbrush to apply the paste to the grout lines

I mop with this solution:
1 cup white vinegar
1 cup baking soda
1 Tbsp blue Dawn
1 gallon hot tap water
1 gallon boiling water
Mop liberally with solution. If you need to scrub you can use a clean broom or scrub brush to get into the grout lines.

My dark charcoal grout on the kitchen floor is cleaned with a steam mop. It looks great after 27 years.

If cleaning doesn't work you can buy Polyblend Grout Renew all in one colorant and grout sealer. Use a small paint brush and follow directions.
