When doing clients carpets I use Dollar Tree Spray Foam Carpet Cleaner and the liquid spray bottle of Carpet Cleaner (red bottle) and have always gotten the spots out even after they've been professionally cleaned.

    Oh Barbara,

I just sat down at my computer after scrubbing some stains on my old carpet. My darling hubby brings me coffee almost every morning. Unfortunately coffee gets dripped on the carpet. It's a very old carpet and I've been working on it to make it look better so I had just looked up some options. I decided to try hydrogen peroxide mixed with a couple of drops of Dawn and some water. It looks like it's working but it's still wet so I won't know for sure until it's dry. I will say that I scrubbed the spots with an old toothbrush and the parts I have done really look great. Click below for the website I found where I got my ideas on what works. Wishing you the best.

Try to figure out what caused each stain. You can pretreat each stain, and then use a general carpet shampoo. If the stains are still wet, soak up all the liquid you can with white paper towels or soft white cloths.

Urine spots need to be treated with white vinegar and water. The vinegar helps neutralize the urine stain and smell. I use a soft sponge to saturate these spots, then a dry sponge to soak up the saturation.

If the stains are sticky or sweet, water with a drop or two of Dawn is the best pretreat, and may remove the whole stain. Sweet treats like coffee, tea, soda, and popsicles all include colors that may stain deeply. But clean with soap and water first. Then use diluted bleach if necessary AND if your carpet color will accept it. If bleach is not an option, clean with water with more Dawn, letting the liquid set for a few minutes to dissolve the sugar and color. Rinse with clean water, the sponge up the liquid with paper towels or clean white cloths, using a fan to help evaporate the water.

Pet or baby feces may require the soap and water and vinegar to get clean.

If the stains are mud and dirt stains, go with soap, water, and soaking.

When all the stains have been cleaned or pretreated, rent a shampooer or hire someone to give your carpet a thorough cleaning, without the cost of hiring retreating. Try to prevent more staining with restricting where food and drinks can be consumed; using runners, shoe-scraping rugs outside and maybe inside each entry; house training any pets or using pet diapers or pet cages; and saying no to your adorable grandchildren. Best wishes to you ☺️

    1 tsp white vinegar

    1/2 tsp ammonia

    3 tbl dish soap

    3/4 cup water

Put in foamer. Put it on the stain, rub it on with a sponge. Wait until dry, then vacuum it up. Repeat as necessary. You can buy the Dawn foamer or any hand soap dispenser that foams. Both items are easy to find in stores.

For a wet stain (before it dries) use a layer of unscented kitty litter until the stain has been absorbed by the kitty litter, then vacuum it up. If any of the stain remains use the foamer.
