Hi Sharon, when we needed a good carpet cleaning and didn't want to hire professionals, I would rent a deep cleaner from the local grocery or hardware store. (Rug Dr. or Bissell brand usually.) These do a great job. Good luck!
you don't need to pre soak your carpet unless you there stains that need removed. then you pre treat just the stains, not the entire carpet. rent a carpet cleaning machine as mentioned above. vacuume the carpet using a cross hatch method ie vacuume the room length wise, then with wise. this gets most of the surface dirt out of the way.
Just be careful if it is a true oriental carpet. Those need a specialized cleaning so the dyes are not damaged. Otherwise I would use a Bissell.
I have used one of those spray containers used to spray weed killers on grass. Make sure its a new one. Put the carpet cleaner in it and pump it up and set the spray nossle for the amount of liquid to come out. Put just enough to dampen not soak it. Then use your carpet machine to take it up.
Tougher spots you can spray the cleaner on the stain and use a clean cloth to pat it. Hopefully the stain will come up, may need to spot clean with a carpet safe spot cleaner. Watch out for products that have bleach or chemicals that can strip the color out.
I once cleaned a apartment using rental machine, the cleaner & defoamer but ran out cleaner. I only had some Woolite for hand washable but only need few feet left. Carpet came so clean, soft ( not stiff), smelled so good I cleaned the whole apartment again. Thing is I thought living room carpet was pea green. Previous renter had rebuilt car car stayer in there & got greasy. Was actually gold like bedrooms. Owner laughed when I showed her the carpet gold again. Did not use the rug/ upholstery cleaner. Used original for hand washing & extra defoamer
You can try special sprays for carpets instead of presoaking them. It will save you some time.
I totally understand the struggle of needing to presoak and clean your carpet. It can be a daunting task, especially if you're dealing with stubborn stains or a large area. In such cases, seeking professional help might be the way to go.
If you're looking to presoak and clean your carpet, I'd recommend considering a professional carpet cleaning service. They have the expertise and equipment to handle tough stains and deep cleaning. Booking a service like this will save you time and effort, plus ensure a thorough job.
If you have an expensive carpet have it cleaned professionally. But if it is the front room carpet rent a machine at your local grocery store. Those work the best.
If you are into it you could mount them on the ceiling above your bed.
Try renting a carpet cleaner at the grocery or home improvement store.
