How can I clean a very tarnished and dirty copper tea kettle that

How can I clean a copper tea kettle that originally must have had some kind of shellac or other sealant on it? Regular cleaners like Bon Ami, Barkeeper’s Friend or Twinkle don’t cut through the varnish.

    A lot of copper things come coated with something to keep the bright copper color and fight varnish. I have no idea what the coating is.

    my mother inlaw used brassoliem or i think thats what it was

    but she would use cotton old t-shirts and put just a little bit on iy and they come out beautifull once done

    Your tea kettle has been sealed. You must remove the sealer as it is not possible to clean it. Take it to a hardware store and ask what solvent you should use.

      Thanks Emily. I’ll ask a few different guys at the hardware store and see if I get the same answer twice. Lol! I guess I could do some research on the web as well.
