How can I clean an oldl silverware box??
I have a silverware box of some kind of wood,, given to me in 1950. I sat around on the kitchen counter for years and accumulated a layer of dull stuff --maybe grease from cooking all those years and how can I clean it and make it shiny and clean and new looking so I can sell it with all the silverware?

You might try Murphy's Oil Soap to clean it up. Follow label directions.
Hi, Use A Silver cleaning wadding called DuraGlit or other silver cleaning methods, all available at DIY stores.
I always use Murphy's Oil Soap on wood.
Murphy's oil soap is an excellent all purpose wood cleaner.

You can use some Dawn dish liquid on a damp cloth and sponge. Let it dry. Some light sanding and seal with three coats of a water based poly.
Try a wood safe degreaser or make a baking soda and peroxide paste to scrub the build up off.
This works on wooden kitchen cabinets so should work for this too:
Dissolve a teaspoon of mild dish soap in a cup of warm water. Dip a soft scouring sponge or rag into the solution and gently but firmly rub on the greasy areas.
The sponge will help keep in some moisture and cause foaming action so that the grease will strip off easier.
To clean your wood silverware box you can use any type cleaner that's labeled as being great for wood cabinetry. Likely a good scrub with a soft cloth dipped in hot soapy Dawn dishwashing liquid and water will do the cleaning trick you need. Be careful not to let the product get into the lining of the silverware case.
Clean with Murphy's oil soap then polish with lemon oil or teak oil. The oil revives old wood.
are you wanting to clean the wood case that holds the silverware or the silver itself? You can use something like Fantasik cleaner it is a good degreaser to clean the wood box then use damp cloth with clear water to clean off the cleaner and then dry
