I have the same problem! Twice I've removed all the sealant, bleached the door and replaced the sealant. No easy job I might add. However, in less than a year it was back. I feel your frustration so I too would like an answer. How do we get rid of this?

Janet is right it is behind the sealer. You need to cut it out let it totally dry and re-caulk it. Drying your shower and leaving the door open after your shower will cut down on mold.

I like the smell of that Barbra! Sia is right on mark about black mold! I have never been so sick as one time years ago I was cleaning out old, old property with my sister and I ended up so sick I ended up in the hospital. It flakes white and its the white stuff that makes you sick when you inhale it!

The only real way to remove the mold and mildew is to cut out the caulking and redo it. Everyday shower cleaning is helpful to prevent the problem, by drying it out as much as possible and using a daily shower cleaner. Make sure to run the bath fan for at least 20 minutes post- showering to remove moisture from the space and promote drying. If you really want to be thorough, then use a rag to dry the surface after showering. Here is some advice for recaulking: 1. Using a window razor scraper carefully cut the caulking out by pushing it along the surface between the caulk and shower door/ caulk and shower base. Use care to not cut into the shower base material. After cutting out the bulk of the caulk bead, then sometimes holding the razor blade completely perpendicular to the surface and "dragging" it along the remaining caulk residue will help remove it. This practice is all about feel, so try different angles to see what works best without damaging the surfaces. 2. All the existing silicone caulk must be removed as completely as possible. This is the most critical step, as the new silicone will not adhere to the old. 3. Use denatured alcohol to clean additional residue off the surfaces, and to prep them for best adhesion of the new caulking. The same can be used for tool cleanup. 4. Recaulk with the highest quality silicone caulk possible. Preferably one containing a mildew inhibitor. 5. If the shower door has "weep holes" where the water drains out, make sure to not caulk over or inside of them.

You will have to disassemble the frame, and clean w/ bleach for mold, mineral deposit's : heat vinegar in microwave for 2-3 min. pour 50/50 solution hot vinegar & dish soap ( dawn) in spray bottle, let set and w/ abrasive sponge side down scrub, may require 2-3 times depending on severity, then reassemble. to prevent future problem, use this mix and clean shower regularly
