Soak a rag in vinegar and leave it overnight over the calcium buildup to allow the vinegar to break it down.
I whole-heartedly agree. (That's Texan talk for "yes, ma'am, she is right".) There is nothing like good ol' vinegar for getting calcium build-up off of things. It is handy in a spray bottle, also, to use on shower doors or walls.
I find that applying CLR to the area and letting it it for 5 to 10 minutes, does the job with no mess to clean up.
