I use vinegar and water in a spray bottle with paper towel as you should not get them to wet.

I use swifter mop with wet pads.

From what I have been told, swifter wet pads aren't good for laminate floors and even though vinegar/water is a good cleaner it can remove the sheen on the floor. My friend said she was told to use "Bona" on the floors in the 1st floor apartment she rents out. There had been problems with some of the planks separating and that is what the floor specialist said to use. I bought it at Home Depot but haven't used it yet. My friend said she likes it. Good luck!

I find the best way is a steam mop. If it is really dirty I spray clorox clean up on floor and then steam mop it. if it leaves and sticky residue just steam mop it again with a clean steam mop head cover. Saved Me hours on my hands and knees scrubbing the floor. I have a Bissell steam mop.

@Amy Gill How long have you been doing this? I was told by the men who laid my floor to NEVER use a steam mop as it will force moisture between the boards and cause them to swell and wear faster.

We own a vacation home rental with laminate floors throughout. I put 1/2 cup vinegar to 2 gallons of water and a drop of dawn dish soap. I wash it on my hands and knees with a rag rung out really well. It hasn't taken the sheen off the floor yet and I've washed the whole house this way 1-3 times every week for the last 1 1/2 years.

Well I didn't realize you had plank laminated floors. I was basing my suggest on sheet laminated floors. For plank floors I suggest just vaccum well, then use water and perhaps sparingly dawn mixture on a slightly dampened microfiber strip. I have a a O cedar Flip mop, you can buy more strip refills and they can be machined washed after use. I also suggest not using any fabric softener when washing and also to just let dry( no clothes dryer). You may have to rinse the floor a second time with just water, so you pickup any residue left behind from soap. (original blue dawn dish soap is the best). Sorry if I misunderstood the question. I just recently put in the plank floors and I feel your pain. Never use vinegar and water only, because it will eventually strip the finish on the floor over time and may yellow it.

I have also used the Bono, it seems to work well too. I use the bono also on my hardwoods that surround the kitchen (where the plank floor is) That way if I am doing all the floors I am using one step. I just make sure to change the floor strips, when they get dirty, well cleaning, so I don't just transfer dirt from room to room. Hope this helps, If you find something better, please let me know.

I just got new laminate floors. I was in Lumber Liquidators and was told to use the Bellawood all natural cleaner. I reiterated to him that I have LAMINATE. He said the finish on laminate and wood floors is essentially the same and I could safely use this product. I purchased it in a kit with "mops" similar to Swiffer only with washable pads. The bottle of cleaner that came in the kit sprays a very fine mist on to the floor which you then mop. Very little liquid. Very clean floors. I can die happy now. : )

I use a product called Wood for Good by Method. They have both lemon and almond. I use the almond. I use it not only on the laminate but tile as well. What is great is that it is a more natural product plus it can get up old animal accidents that you may discover after being gone for the day. I just squirt a little on the site, let it sit for about 5 minutes and wipe up with a paper towel. It dissolves everything, leaving the floor clean and smelling great. I get mine on a subscription basis at vitacost.com which saves me money. http://www.vitacost.com/method-squirt-and-mop-wood-floor-cleaner-almond-25-fl-oz-1

I just got new laminate floors. Lumber Liquidators said I can use the Bellawood cleaner. He said the factory finish on wood and laminate is the same. The cleaner bottle sprays a very fine mist which I then mop with my Swiffer like mop that has washable pads.

I use the swiffer for wood floors, it smells really clean. No streaks like I got sometimes with the Bono that was recommended to me by the flooring installer.

I use murphys oil soap on both laminate and wood. No streaks and I know it is clean... (4 dogs, 1cat, 1 teenage boy)

@Shirley Smith-Tillman I love Murphy's Oil Soap, but there are two formulations that are used for very different cleaning applications. If you use the wrong one on your laminate floors you will have a sticky, greasy mess. (I know from my experience managing a resort where the cabins had laminate floors and our new housekeepers used Murphy's - had to go back and re-clean dozens of floors). For my laminate floors at home I use 1 cup white vinegar to 1 gallon of warm water - cleans beautifully and no harsh chemicals. (I save my Murphy's for other uses).

Ruth, be careful with Vinegar and water.Laminate floors cannot take much water.Damp mop them and use an old towel or dry mop to dry them.Do not let water sit on the boards.
  • Shirley Smith-Tillman Shirley Smith-Tillman on Aug 13, 2015
I have always used the original...

Marshall's/TJMx has a great spray. I also use: 1 cup vinegar, 1 cup hydrogen peroxide, 1 cup rubbing alcohol, plus essential oil as I please. I find them equally good.
