Gently scrape it off using a single edged razor. You can remove any residue with vinegar or Goo Gone when done.
Take as much as you can off with your fingers, then hot water, mild soap, and a soft cloth dipped in it. Use the cloth to rub off the gluey adhesive until it is gone, then buff the door knob with with dry end of the cloth.
Try spraying the knob with some wd40. It works as a nice solvent without changing the patina
Test is on an area that doesn't show just to be sure

Goof Off or you might try WD40
Use a soft scrubbing pad and soft commit cleaner. Wet a rag rap around the taped door for 5 minutes apply cleaner and sue some elbow egress
Spray with WD 40
wd40 or nail polish remover
spray with a light oil and let soak and tape should be easier to remove
rub with a cotton ball with baby oil on it or Avon skin so soft.
