Keeping the toilet plunger/toilet brush sanitized between uses.

KMS Woodworks on May 16, 2013If you need to use a toilet plunger more than once or twice a year...there are other issues at hand. The toilet itself, paper use habits, or diet. Before my kids were regular toilet users on their own I had used the plunge maybe 2 times in 10 + years. These days, I have used it a few time in the last year. In part due to over use of "paper" by my 12 and 14 year old daughters. When I explain that a softball sized amount is not really needed they sometimes just roll their eyes. on the toilet side power flush toilets can really get the job done. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXVHwfuVY1k the flush mate system uses the homes water pressure rather than the basic gravity based systems of most designs. http://www.flushmate.com/Helpful Reply

Sia@South 47th on May 16, 2013LOL KMS Woodworks, I love ya~! Kimberly? You may want to try to dump some cat litter in a small trash can, or the trash can you have, after cleaning it. Then just turn the plunger until it's submerged. When you need it shake it off, do your plunging, clean and re-submerge into the cat sand trash can. No harm to the kitties! Just make sure you don't plunge with the litter on it, or you'll be needing some more advice from KMS Woodworks! xoHelpful Reply

169751 on May 16, 2013LOL both of you! Let's just say my GI doctor is monitoring my 'output', so to speak, which can involved additional plunging. The cat litter idea sounds great for the plunger! We use the flushable wheat litter, so no need to shake it off first. Thanks ladies, occasionally some toilet humor is what a person needs in the day! ;-)Helpful Reply

Sherrie on May 16, 2013I use this for my toilet brush and plunger. After your plunge and clear your toilet leave the plunger in the water and flush the water to rinse it off. Then spray it down with disinfectant. Put the plunger ,under under the toilet lid and let it dry. Then I set mine on the bottom of a ceramic planter lid. You know the bottom part you use to catch the water. The disinfectant idea came from a reader on Jillie's page. I have a cleaning business and always look for improvement. And the plunger also kept it clean and disinfected and it doesn't set on the floor and isn't dirty. Always give credit to those that give us idea's or how too's! Do what's right don't steal from our friends that share their idea's and wisdom!Helpful Reply

KMS Woodworks on May 17, 2013A lot of folks are also "fecophobs" (to use some of the terminology of Author Joe Jenkins) He is author of the Humanue handbook. This book covers the fine benefits of composting toilets. We use a DIY built "sawduster" at our off grid cabin. http://humanurehandbook.com/about.html http://kmswoodworks.wordpress.com/2010/04/02/spring-break-at-the-cabin/Helpful Reply
