    Yes:

    1. If you've had a house fire
    2. If you see dust blowing out of the register
    3. If there is dust collected around the register(s)
    4. If someone in the house has very bad allergies
    5. If you've just gotten a new A/C unit

Otherwise, it's not necessary. Just change the filters once a month or more often if you have long haired animals (teenagers don't count).

  • Or if you have had renovation done in your home. Then your contractor should do for you as part of the project.

I change my filter once a month.

NO. Duct cleaning is a rip off. As long as you replace the filter once a month your good to go. I like to use the pleated filters. They trap more dust than the blue woven filters.

My contractor says, if your ducts need dusting, there must be a leak. In which case, the HVAC is not working efficiently. 😇

Yes....they need to be cleaned periodically to remove build-up, dirt, etc.

Furnace filters that are pleated not good for furnace. Holds back air. Just spray the cheap ones with polish and it will trap more dust. Dust goes into the vents like it settles on furniture. One just needs to sweep every so often what you can reach under the vents. Wash vents in dish washer. No dish washer, soak in tub with vinager and cleaned in water.

11+ years in HVAC. The cheap woven blue filters allow 90% air flow and hold back 10% dust/dirt. While the pleated filters allow 85% air flow but hold back 25% dust/dirt. Do not affect the force of air flow. There is a formula for that.
