Spray it on and wipe it off with paper towels or I prefer a soft cotton rag that leaves no lint behind.

  Do you follow up with a soap and water wash? WD40 has such a disagreeable odor. Growing up we always called WD40 Dad's "Miracle Spray"! Good stuff.

  Yes, and my personal preference is Dawn original. Odors, no matter how offensive do not bother me. It is for a finite period of time. If it smells for 10 or 20 minutes and I get a clean door out of it, I am game. Wear a mask, if that helps. Which reminds me, I loaned my last can of WD40 out and its has not been returned . . . Oh well, another thing to add to my list.
