Try WD 40 and see if that helps.
Try vinegar and water or baking soda and vinegar.
is it really brown or did the finish come off? If the finish came off, replace it.
Is the faucet stainless or chrome? Barkeepers friend makes a liquid or powder cleaner. About 3 dollars. At wall mart or home depot.
B.t.w. vinager will turn aluminum dark... More cleaning.
Toilet bowl cleaners, like solutions made to remove lime, rust, and oven cleaners are all caustic. That’s why they recommend that you wear gloves and not to let the chemicals come into contact with your skin. In the future, use all purpose cleaners. If you have built-up soap scum and mineral deposits, any solution with vinegar will help. I like to use a sponge that is soft on one side and a scrubber on the other. I also use the edge of the dishwashing cloth to run under the faucet handles, like flossing my teeth. If the cleaning doesn’t do enough, you can always paint the faucet the same or a different metallic type. Hammered copper or hammered steel are very popular now. 😇
Nothing much you can do but live with it or replace it. The toilet bowl cleaner reacted with the finish and stripped it off.
You might try a polish that is specific to your finish on the faucet, that might bring it back.
I saw this technique on a blog and tried it on my kitchen faucet. It worked great, so a few months later, I did it again and it destroyed the finish on my faucet!!! Now it has to be replaced. That's probably what happened to yours.
it happened to me as well. it contains 12% hydrochloric acid. I don't know what to do . Any help on this topic?
The secret is spray on and immediately rinse off. Used it in our resort bathrooms. Need to replace faucets. No cleaner will help.
Sounds like a chemical reaction. Have you tried Turned? It is used to clean sterling , silver plate, platinum, copper, gold, diamonds. You just wipe it on& rinse it off. If it is going to work you should see the difference right away!
Sorry to hear this, hope this helps a bit,
