What is the best home remedy window cleaner

Just leased an apartment in the desert and am having issues getting the sliding doors and windows clean, after years of hot sun and blowing dust. They are not scratched, but maybe oil/smog coated? Please help. I know one of you out there has a great home recipe and I'm dying to have it!

Use rubbing alcohol. It works great.

If your windows have a "foggy" look to them rather than streaky... it may be due to a "sand blasting" effect by the wind blown sand...(lived in the Lancaster area of CA 15 years) and the glass has been pitted. If that is the case... then the only way you can fix it is to re-glaze the windows or replace them (the new windows are much more energy efficient anyway)

I always use white vinegar & water 50% each. Wishing you the best.

If it's heavily coated with oil, etc, You might try a Magic Eraser or razor blade with a little dish soap on the glass, then completely clean and shine with the alcohol.

  • Vinegar water and newspaper. Hose the outside down first.

Try to wash with ammonia water to clean, follow it with a rinse of vinegar water to get rid of any soap residue. That is what my mom always used.

If you are talking about cleaning the outside consider putting Jet Dry in your window cleaning solution and you won't have to rinse them and it will dry streak free. Goggle it for the exact recipe.
