We often used koolade for copper and brass, neat part was you could slightly influence the color with the koolade. Often not noticeable, but could leave a nice result if left too long.. (oops) .

(hot sauce works as well)

Ketchup works on brass and copper.

I put squeezed lemons in a plastic bag in the fridge when I need to shine copper I just pull one out of the bag and add kosher salt. Then if you have a garbage disposal slip it down there. Great way to save money.
