How To Make Air Cleansing Rosemary & Sage Smudge Sticks

Smudging is the ancient art of burning dried herbs - typically sage. The smoke is believed to cleanse negative energy and purify living spaces.

It has also been found to be "nature's anti-depressant", clear the air of bacteria, dust, pollen and pet dander amongst other things.

You can read about all of the wonderful benefits of smudging and how to properly smudge your living space here.

Gather your supplies. You'll need some sticks of fresh rosemary, some sage, cotton thread or organic hemp string and a pair of snips.

Lay several sprigs of herbs on top of each other. You’ll want to make it thick. It will lose volume when it’s dry.

Secure the bottom of the bundle with a double knot using the cotton or hemp string.

Wrap the thread tightly around the herb bundle. Make sure it’s snug. Tie a double knot at the top.

Lay the bundle on a screen or rack. Let the bundles dry for several days. They need to be completely dry before you can burn them.

Once completely dry, light the end of the smudge stick. Once there is a steady flame, blow it out and allow it to smoke and smoulder. Place the smudge stick on a dish or Abalone shell and simply waft the smoke with your hand or a fan into the area you wish to purify.
