Scrub down with steel wool, wash and dry, then paint with rust resistant spray or brush paint. I bit of a chore, but would look great.
Rustoleum makes great paints for metal outdoor items if they are really bad I would wash them with water and a little bit of Dawn blue dish soap them them dry and if any flaking rust is on them, use a wire brush to get that off then paint - the paints come in numerous colors and easy to use
Hi Michele, vinegar and a steel wire brush and a LOT of elbow grease. You want to get off as much paint and rust as possible. After that a good metal paint and you'll have a product hat lasts!
lightly sand the rust off, clean, use a metal primer, spray paint with Rustoleum 2X for metal and seal with a clear UV protectant
