There's a film when both sides are clean. Sunlight coming through really shows it.

Maybe it's the argon gas that sometimes takes on a bluish tint when the sun shines on the window. There is something between the two panes of window that I think is the argon which helps seal the windows from heat and cold.

  • Chances are the seal is broken. Here is a link that explains it well for you. Good luck!

Seems like the seal has failed and the argon gas leaked out and air got sucked in. No way to clean between the glass or repair. Their insulating property has also been compromised. The glass panels will need to be replaced, not the whole window. I know Ace Hardware sells double pane glass panels and also install.

If it is not between the windows, My mom always used ammonia water to clean and vinegar water to rinse and sometimes dried with newspapers. Her double pain windows always sparkled!

I have the same problem with a French door. I've been told by a contractor that the seal has broken and it let's moisture as well as dirt in between the double-panes. The only way to solve this problem is to have the window part replaced. Looks like I will have to live with it for a while longer.

Thanks so much Chubby58. Your answer sounds very plausible. Like you I will have to live with it a while longer since there are several windows. Thanks again!

I meant to add that my windows have a blue hue to them which is the Low-E glass. The hue comes with the windows and will probably remain there. Why worry about the streaks because as soon as you wash your windows, it rains anyway.
