Using Dawn will get the fleas off but it will also dry out the puppies skin. You can mix it with baby shampoo for a less harsh wash.

Read this - maybe you can just follow this and put it on your dog.
Do not use any product on animals that was not designed to kill fleas. Washing animals in soap and rinsing off is one thing but dish soap is made to break down grease NOT to leave on an animals fur where they can lick it off. Please look for a product at somewhere like Chewy.com or you vet so you do not hurt you pet. Most HOMEMADE concoctions I have ever seen do not work to kill fleas and flea eggs anyway.

DIY Dog Flea Spray - No Chemicals
This thread is a couple of years old, but if you're still on the hunt for a flea solution, I thought I'd chime in. Dawn dish soap is a classic go-to for a quick flea bath, but it might not provide long-lasting protection against fleas and ticks. Usually, you'd dilute the Dawn in water and use it as a shampoo rather than a spray, making sure to rinse thoroughly afterward. However, if you're interested in a more sustainable and natural option, you might want to consider Wondercide's Flea and Tick Spray. I came across a pretty informative review on our pet card that talked about how the spray is made from natural ingredients and can be used directly on your dog, as well as on bedding and even upholstery.
