I'd go to the store and see what other wood safe cleaners they have you would like the small of. Here on Home Talk others will have some home made remedies for you. You can also use warm soapy water and cloth, dry quickly. If need to polish and protect, I use Old English.
Are you adding to much product to the water? It usually has a fresh smell.
