Tall book cases. They hug the wall and go up instead of taking up floor space. You can always put see through storage boxes on top of them.

I agree. In a small place, up is definitely the way to go. I use bookcases with baskets -- a great combo. Also sold my round dining table and got a 3' x 5' one. My dining/craft/office room is small, but that table is the greatest thing in it. Great for crafts, cutting fabric, wrapping gifts -- even eating!

We have a small bedroom with a double window in the center of one wall, and about 32" on either side of it. In front of the window, I centered a skirted craft/sewing table, made from a table top resting on two old filing cabinets (which you can't see, as it is hidden by the skirt -- my back is to the window as I sit at the table). On one side of the window, I placed an inexpensive white bookcase where I keep sewing supplies, fabrics in baskets, a paper cutter, etc. On the other side of the window, I hung a piece of white plastic pegboard. On this I attached little cans of craft supplies such as markers and pens; spindles of wrapping paper and ribbon; scissors; a basket of craft paints; and my sewing thread holder. Anything else I need is hidden in the closet!
