Purchase a good quality over the door shoe rack that you can easily hide inside a cliset or on the back of a bedroom door. I got one at The Container Store that I use for scarves and gloves -

Cloth folding baskets that you can buy anywhere are my favorite. They are nice, because they contain the clutter, and at the same time, fold for storage when you don't need them. Most have a handle or tag at one end, and I label them so I know what is inside, or tie a ribbon the color of the fabric/trims inside to the handle. -

IKEA has the Raskög cart. It is the best thing for storing all sorts of craft supplies, and you can easily move it from room to room. -

There is a special kind of storage unit for artists....I think it is called a "tabouret"or "tabourette".....An artist friend of our has one his father made for him.....it's beautiful and very useful with lots of narrow [ie. not deep] shelves he can store brushes and supplies inside, laid flat......hope this helps!
