How fun! You could create the body out of tin foil for the base (body) and then just have a ball tearing up white or cream inexpensive Muslim into strips. Apply some spray adhesive to the armiture working in small sections and wrap the torn strips haphazardly around your mummy. Leave some ragged strips hanging so it doesn't look "new". For added age, you could, with a very dry paintbrush add more age with a burnt umber paint used very sparingly at random spots. Good luck.
