Make a table to go behind the sofa

I have floor to ceiling ( well almost, 6" below ceiling and 6" above floor) windows all along the south wall 53' and would like to make a table about 12" wide , the length of the sofa for my 4 cats to sit on. I need to be able to pull it out so I can clean behind the sofa. Problem is that it has to be very stable as they will run full tilt and jump from 6' away. They can even tip the sofa backwards and then it settles down. They love to look out the windows and snooze in the sunlight. Also thinking about putting shelves in the middle and at each end for them to sit on.That is okay, there is such small space between the windows, that I can nail the shelves to wall studs.

For years I lived in a room with open beams instead of a ceiling, and the cats loved to wander around up there. I put shelves off-set on one wall so that they could jump from one to the next and then into the rafters. Can't help with your window situation, but I know cats! I can tell you that some electrical conduit from Lowe's or HD, some connectors from same, and some inexpensive sheers from IKEA will cover even 53' fairly cheaply. There's a woman who posted how she did it on this site.

@Barb in Texas i DON'T WANT TO COVER THEM. WE BOUGHT BLINDS BUT ENDED UP LEAVING THEM OPEN BECAUSE WE CANNOT SEE THE BIRDS, RCCOONS AND DEER AND SQUIRRELS ON THE DECK. THIS IS JUST TO ALLOW THE CATS A VIEWING SEAT OR A SNOOZNG PLACE. i ALSO PLAN TO PUT STEPS ABOVE THE SHELF SO EACH CAN HAVE HIS/HER OWN PLACE. I PLAN TO PUT SHORT PLANTS BELOW ON THE FLOOR. THE REST OF THE WINDOWS WILL HAVE TOMATOES AND OTHER VEGETABLES GROWING OVER WINTER.

Hoa long is your couch? If it is 6 ft or less........look for old waterbed or similar bookcase headboard. some of the old ones can be very attractive and are the right depth. Or find a sturdy bookshelf. If a heaboard.......put sliders underneath, so can be easily moved. If a bookcase, mount casters.

@PainterNoni THIS IS A SHELF TO GO BEHIND A SOFA, IN FRONT OF WINDOWS. iT IS MOSTLY FOR A PLACE FOR THE CATS TO SIT AND WATCH THE BIRDS ON THE DECK SO IT HAS TO BE STABLE ENOUGH FOR AN 18 LB CAT TO JUMP ON FROM 6 FEET AWAY, CAN'T TILT. HARLEY AHS BEEN KNOWN TO TIP THE SOFA ALMOST OVER, IT ROCKS BACK AND FORTH AND THEN SETTLES IN IT''S REGULAR POSITION.

Is there any place at all to attach anything to the wall, like any space in between the windows? I've seen cat seats sold in catalogs that are just basically floating shelves that attach to the wall at the window so the cats can sit and look outside.

Hi again, I have just been on Pinterest and typed in narrow table for behind a sofa. There are some good ideas but I will carry on looking to see how you could attach it to your skirting temporarily so you can clean

No need to be sorry, that is how we learn from one another.

Pinterest again! Simple table from pallets with a little extra wood. Anywhere you buy lumber will cut it for you if you don't have those kinds of tools. Paint any way you like. Good luck!!
