Want to build my indoor cat a catio (cat patio)

My cat used to be an outdoor cat but due to her age (15) and a relocation of our home she will be inside.

I have a very big balcony and I want to build her a patio there, or outside one of the windows (we are on second floor thought), something medium size just so she can enjoy fresh air but still be safe.

  Hardware cloth would be a better solution. Its stiffer than chicken wire, and, I feel, provides more security. It would also keep vermin out better. Its a little more expensive, and chicken wire would be good for an interim plan. I'd build a frame with treated 2x4s, place them them 24-48" apart (depending on how wide your chicken wire or hardware cloth is) and do a board in between each stud for stability. That would give you a base to attach any walkways and handing things you might want to add
