Gluing pennies to a table top

What type of adhesive should I use to glue peenies to a table top?

When I made my penny top end table I worked in small sections about 6 inches x 6 inches that I put a medium to light coat of Mod Podge on then set the pennies in place and then did another section. It dries clear like glue. I think you could probably use glue too but I had the Mod Podge on hand and I always experiment.

ok.........thank you Mary.....I was a waitress for almost 40 yrs and I want to use these pennies in a decorative way!....A coffee table I think........

@Linda M here's a picture of my penny table. I worked from the outside to the middle. I had a larger opening left in the middle so I pit a quarter in the middle. I do wish I would have made another square of shiny pennies like the one that stand out. This table had a lip around the edge so when I pored the clear top it didn't drip off.

I use a glue from the hardware store that withstands outdoor elements. I can repair terracotta pots, stabilize the saucer on a birdbath etc.

I know a while back someone used Gorilla glue for their pennies. Gorilla glue is good for some projects but I wouldn't use it for the pennies. I personally wouldn't use gorilla glue because it puffs up and if you use too much the glue will come out from underneath the penny and you will have a mess on your hands. 
I also don't think you necessarily need a glue that will be waterproof or withstand the elements.
The clear epoxy will hold the pennies in place after they are glued down. You pretty much only want the pennies secured to the base before you pour the epoxy .... after that.those pennies aren't going anywhere. 
So my best recommendation is whatever all purpose glue you have should work.
