I like the color at the end of the hall. And maybe some new lighting. And here are some really good ideas:

You can add some chair rails with picture frame mouldings underneath the rails. Or you can add some wainscotting on the wall and take it up halfway up the wall.
Chair rails with bead board as wainscoting in a lighter color, or use the gold color underneath with cream above to brighten the hallway.
Can use mirrors to reflect light and make hallway appear wider.
How about adding wainscoting panels on the lower half? It would brighten it up and make it lighter.
Long rug runner. Comes by the yard. Get a print. The area needs some color and pattern. You will get used to it...It is bound on two sides, and you can have it bound on the small ends. Will change the look a LOT!
You can get all kinds of wall clings to apply - from simple black & white ones (music notes, etc), or you could do a family tree - this is a really cute one. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/460141286912013689/?%24ios_deeplink_path=pinterest%3A%2F%2Fpin%2F460141286912013689&%24android_deeplink_path=pinterest%3A%2F%2Fpin%2F460141286912013689&_client_id=6KH6vsXchRHE0r-PC4QkgC0Bt_Mtkv0fXdKs1tQXXViVnJtm6v9vL9GahKoq0unw&utm_source=168&utm_medium=2160&%24fallback_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pinterest.com%2Fpin%2F460141286912013689%2F¤t_page_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.pinterest.com%2Famp%2Fpin%2F460141286912013689%2F&install_id=7ac6bf4e55721a0f06ac8576de59774d&_branch_match_id=497375097602789708
A nice runner, some pictures on the walls and perhaps a table with a little vignette at the end of the hallway so your I can focus on something perhaps include a little lamp on it to help brighten things up a bit
Once I made gold -double sided stars from thick wrapping paper that held a fold. glued a string hanger inside; taped the 2 sides together and suspended them from athe ceiling down the hall. We loved them.
A mural that you apply to the wall, they're widely available and can be removed if you want to change the look.
