think it was called Fruitwood. Lots of furniture back then was marketed as Fruitwood. A bit more brown than a pecan finish.Helpful Reply -

Sorry, but it doesn't have the depth of cherry wood to my eye... (cherry grain has that element of glistening depth... I don't know how to describe it, but look at the picture someone posted earlier, see those repeatedly glistening flecks of grain that look almost like you can see into the wood? That's what I mean about cherry) I think you piece is either butternut or more likely pecan. (have we totally confused you now? :) )Helpful Reply -

my foster grandpa was a wood worker- he made me a grandmother clock of cherry wood. comparing the clock to the furniture- the grain is not the same.Helpful Reply -

My grandfather loved working with poplar. I have a beautiful cabinet in poplar, which has a wide grain like this, with a slightly greenish tone to it. Could this be poplar?Helpful Reply -

Your wood is maple...my dad was a carpenter and he built my mom's cabinets in her kitchen from maple..I would recognize that wood grain anywhere! :)Helpful Reply -
