Paint it a distinctive accent color that fits with your color scheme of rooms or furniture. A high wall may also become an art display wall, especially if you add some accent lighting. Battery-operated LED fixtures can be installed without wiring, and they have remote control switches that turn on/off the lights.
Hello
I like the look a statement piece of art. I have been very lucky to have found some of the best origional signed art at estate sales, consignment shops and thrift stores. Quite often to you can buy a framed piece for the glass, frame and mat and remove the art that doesnt impress you- put something new in it.
Framing and moreso custom framing is very expensive. That or an interesting console table that you might consider custom painting?
Steph, as a retired interior decorator, I always told my clients never to decorate above 8'. For one thing, no one wants to crane their neck to look at paintings higher than that, and for another thing, who is going to get up there and dust that high up?! I recommend that you use moldings to add architectural interest to the space -- there are lots of ideas on Pinterest -- and keep your decorative items where you can clean them.
As a accent wall maybe wallpaper to match the room and then put some floating shelfs
