If it is not weight bearing then you can glue it on with any good glue like 3000. If it has to bear weight then it is best to rivet or screw it onto wood.

Your best bet would be natural hide glue. It's an organic product meant to glue dissimilar materials together, like leather and wood.
I would not use glue , I would prefer Upholstery Tacks.
