Paint white between beams on ceilings and lighten the walls
I'd put tv above the mantel. Set the seating arrangement around that half of room. Set up a different area behind sofa, like game table, secondary seating area, reading/library...
I would place the tv above the fireplace with the couch facing the fireplace. If you like the cabin vibe, don't paint the wood. Maybe change the blades on the ceiling fan. A large rug to brighten the room. Paint the walls with a contrasting color, maybe gobi desert or brown teepee by Behr.
I agree with lightening the walls, natural wood is beautiful and I would be reluctant to paint over it.
Put the TV over the fireplace.
You might consider painting the wood wall to the right of the fireplace the same color as your wall color-it will make it less noticeable and brighten up the room. Painting the brick of the fireplace could be another option to brighten up the room. I love the wood on the ceiling as it is and I would not paint it. If you do decide to paint the ceiling between the beams maybe you could just do a wash to lighten it up rather than a solid paint job. I like the idea of placing the tv above the fireplace mantel if you have the proper electrical set up. Since I can't see the opposite side of the room I don't know if there is another option for the TV.
LOVE this room!
Thank you for all of your replies, appreciate them. We were thinking about whitewashing the brick to brighten the room and will eventually paint the walls a brighter color. I want to paint the wood wall, but, DH does not, go figure! The pictures really do not do the room justice, the wood is beautiful. Planning on washing all the woodwork before moving in. Anymore suggestion would be very helpful!
Is there another room you could watch TV? I thought I read somewhere that it does damage to the TV being over a working fireplace.. heat and all.. even with the mantle to block the heat from the fireplace.. TV's are much larger than they used to be.. That being said... the room is just gorgeous.. I had a room similar and used it as an indoor porch.. Enjoy it.. whatever you use it for!!
Leave the beautiful floor and ceiling alone but paint all the walls off white. You could consider removing the brick from the left side of the fireplace to make it symmetrical. Then you could put shelving on both sides of the fireplace. I think you could mount the TV above the fireplace if you want to. Our fireplace didn't have any electrical above it either. We ran the wires down the side and they hardly show. It's much easier to decorate when you have only one main focal point.
That is a great room! If that were my house, you could find me by that fireplace with a good book! I like the set up of this room... you could a sofa and chairs facing the fireplace and then a second seating area behind it. You could even add a long table behind the sofa. Good luck!
I'd paint the ceiling between the beams, and the same for the walls. Consider putting shiplap over the brick or paint it - add color in your furniture, drapes, plants, pillows, etc. The room is very nice!
Since you said there is no electric by the fireplace I would get a Credenza and place the TV in front of the window. I do not like TV's on the fireplace and it is also not good for them. I would paint the room a cream color. I would NOT paint that beautiful ceiling. The only wood I would paint is to the right of the fireplace to make it cohesive.
Hello, I would paint a color I love, mount the TV above the fireplace, try a sectional in a color you love, with a chaise on it, and a choir or two to match, area rug in your colors and coffee and end tables and a few tall lamps. I love blues and greys, hope these helps you out
