My husband uses a drill.....you may have to put tape over where you want to drill but works for us. Take it slow when drilling.
if you don't have.....?..... a drill? - it can be difficult but you can chip it very carefully and slowly.... with a nail or a chisel
If you don't have a drill, invest in one. You will find endless uses for it. An electric drill can be as inexpensive at $25; bits are about $2. Once you have the drill, keep the clay pot wet and drill the hole slowly. Easy, peezy.
Start small with the drill bits and work your way to larger bits, that will help to stop cracking and breaking.
