If the width is correct, you should be able to add some wood boards to reduce the door frame. You will have to use larger trim to hid the boards but hopefully that will work
Make sure you caulk and seal any cracks before you trim it out. If light can pass through, so can cold &/or hot air.
Cut it down to fit or get a carpenter to do it for you. Will not cost much! He could probably fit the door for you too.
You might be able to add some trim to the frame to make it smaller and accommodate the door.
