If the panels are Gloss painted then rub down any loose paint, prime, undercoat and topcoat. If in good condition, just repaint. If an exterior timber paint was used, from the fencing department of the paint shop - re- apply after you have washed it down first and let it dry before painting. Hope that helps.
You can paint the white for a fresh "shiplap" look, even if it is in a different direction than most. You can also paint a different color.
