I have old sheet vinyl floors in kitchen, would like to put down hardwood floors. Do I need to remove the vinyl flooring first or can I just cover them up?

no,you do not need to remove the old flooring since old vinyl ( and new ) is very thin product. Real wood flooring is actually screwed down in spots, it can also be a tong and groove product, just like the laminate flooring that looks like wood. The difference is the laminate flooring is a floating floor, it is connected to it's self not screwed or glued down the the existing floor. Real wood flooring is screwed/nailed/glued down to the existing floor. It will depend on the product you buy. Real wood will need to be sealed if you are putting it in a kitchen or bathroom, do to water will ruin the wood and cause it to warp and discolor. Do your home work and you'll be just fine.

Hi We just had new floors put in and we had to have ours removed because I had two layers down. Soooooo if you only have ONE floor then the wood floor can be put down over the existing floor.

Hellos Debs, yeas you can, we had new flooring installed over existing linoleum, we just put a thin subfloor over it first. If the flooring is level, you can just lay the nr=ew floor over

Well you could, but I would not recommend it as the wood will sweat!
