Get ready to do some work! No you may not lay tile over peel and stick flooring. It will fail. Your flooring is only as good as the sub floor beneath it. Do it right, pull up the old flooring, make any repairs necessary and then lay ceramic tile. In the end you will have a project to be proud of for years to come.

I wouldn't personally recommend it.

The only way tile will work over peel and stick is if you screw down the cement board/Hardy backer recommended for use under tile (follow the Hardy Backer directions)... we did it over old linoleum and it worked because the cement board screws down into the sub floor.

You should definitely remove the peel and stick tiles first because if they come loose from the floor later, your ceramic tile will also loosen up and you will have a big mess.

marty's correct if you don't want to remove it. If it's a wood subfloor your going to need hardy board anyway so just screw it down over the peel and stick. Remember to remove any doors that open over that floor, they need to be trimmed to adjust to new floor that will be 3/4-1" higher.

I agree with Naomie. Whether a floor or wall the old tile needs to be removed. Any deviation in the peel stick will transfer to the new tile. It will fail. Tile needs a smooth solid base.

Hello, yes you can but only if you put a thin subfloor over it and screw it down, this will give a sturdy base for the ceramic tiles.
