
Do all basement floors need a subfloor before applying hardwood etc.

you want the new floor to be level, and to not have moisture issues. my basement will get wet.. so no hardwood for me. my basement does not a level spot on any where on the floor.Helpful Reply -

No! But you should probably put in some kind of vapor barrier to keep moisture out since it is below ground level.Helpful Reply -

To be done properly, yes, you should have a subfloor. You may get the same look with a good quality sheet vinyl that looks like wood.Helpful Reply -

They do make wood floor boards for install on cement slab. I think it more like a floating floor but they snap into each other. I would paint a moisture barrier on floor first.Helpful Reply -

Did you ever think about wood look self stick planks...we were afraid of potential water issues and weren't willing to do hardwood and not to mention damp issues...these self stick planks are great...and cost effective ...look great!!!Helpful Reply -
