What can I cover a rug with that will also add color to my bedroom?

I have a bedroom with off white carpet with stains. I just moved in and got 3 chihuahuas. Dont want the rug to get worse so want to cover or something. Area rug or something that will brighten and make my room pop. Dont have much money or no money. Is there any easy rug ideas. Ive heard of rag rugs. Anything you can think of would be appreciated. Thank you!

I have seen lots of large area rugs at garage sales for cheap.

You can get pretty large outdoor rugs fairly cheap at At Home, Overstock.com, Wayfair

I would check your local home improvement store. Generally (all the way in the back) they have huge rolls of carpets on hand that you can have cut to any size you like. They are always the best deal in the store.
