If you would tell us what you have tried, that would be a place for us to start. If you would give an idea of what condition your floors are in and your perception of what makes them unattractive that would also help. I have had good luck with products made by Bruce. They make wood and laminate flooring as well as anything that helps maintain wood flooring. If you are looking at a refurb, this site gives a how-to for refinishing:

I also like Rejuvenate products. My floors are in good shape but I use there shine restorer all the time to clean them. It doesn't build up. They also have products for floors in need of repair.
