This is up for debate. Some people say that in a large room, you want to start at the middle point along the back edge, and in a small room you want to start placement along the middle of the main entry (i.e. a small bathroom door would have tiles middle of the door frame running the length down to give you a starting idea). I tend to agree with this philosophy. Whatever you do, unless you are putting in a chevron or herringbone pattern, don't start in a corner. It is the fastest way to learn that your room isn't "square." Hope this help :)
when my son laid our kitchen tile he measured and marked the center point in the room. Once he found the center he laid the first tile working and laying tiles in a pattern all around the center tile ....
