Is there an easy way to repair or replace the rubber backing on rugs?

I have some old rugs that are perfectly fine on top but the rubber backing has dried out and fallen apart. Can that problem be fixed or would it be cheaper to just buy new rugs?

Depends on the rugs and how much you like them. The foam pads they sell to go under rugs could be used with double sided tape so you can remove it when the rugs need washing. Or spray adhesive for permanent backing.
They do make rug backing that you can attach to the back of the rug. It's made to keep rugs from slipping and sliding. I don't know how much they cost, so I don't know if replacing the rugs would cost less.
