Hello there, If the Vinyl is old then it has probably shrunk, as it does, especially if it had not been stuck to the floor. If this is to be a DIY job, then I would suggest you either lift the entire floor and re-stick it down making sure the centre has a tight join, and trim around the edges that will now be short, (keep trims to use as template use later). Choose a contrast tile or vinyl to give you a border around your floor. Or you could cut back the gap even more and insert New contrast Vinyl Tiles, or use Gaffer tape for a fix, which could be replicated elsewhere on the floor to make it look part of the overall design.
