Squeaky floors

We are renting an older 2-story home with wood floors which squeak loudly with every step. Does anyone have advice for how to fix squeaky floors without a major effort?

there are screws that can go down into the flood joists without being able to actually seeing the floor joist. However you must know where they are.

Heard this one day on HGTV:

"Here are some tips for silencing the squeak: Sprinkle baby powder, baking soda or powderedgraphite over the squeakyfloorboard and work it into the seams. This will lubricate the wood and should keep the floorboards from rubbing together and squeaking."

    Good luck!

Your floors squeak from old boards or they need to be nailed down. Over time the wood expands and contracts. There must be something you can do, my team will answer your question.

Quick solution is to spread talcum powder and sweep repeatedly to get between boards - acts as a lubricant. The noise is mostly the boards rubbing on each other.

Other squeaks are if the boards bend more, and would then require nailing to secure. For that you may be better off talking to a floor carpenter or wood refinisher who could direct you to where to nail and perhaps advise the use of square nails (to cut the wood as they go in instead of spreading the fibers)
