First, you need to see what that drop ceiling is hiding. If you don't want to deal with it (it may be cracked or falling plaster) they make some very pretty drop ceiling tiles now.Helpful Reply -

We had a drop ceiling in our downstairs bathroom & laundry room. I hate drop ceilings! I found styrofoam ceiling tiles online & they looked great. Since we didn't have anything hanging from the ceiling, we just glued them on. What a difference. Don't use sheetrock if the ceiling is in the basement. You won't have access to plumbing, wiring or ductwork without having to rip it out again. Maybe painting it a different color(s) would help.Helpful Reply -
