drop cloth on the floor... spray bottle in your hand - and wielding a scraper tool.... its slow, it's mess - but boy is it worth it!!! Be sure to inspect the ceiling before you begin - as I discovered in the house we bought - (it was a foreclosure) sometimes they popcorn the ceiling to hide cracks and other things up there - and if you look really well in bright daylight - you can see the things they are covering..... Just so you are sure what you are getting yourself into!!! good luck@!
