What is the best way to remove popcorn ceilings?

Call in the professionals it will be very messy, if not , wet and use a Paint scraper. -

Clear the room. Lots of drop cloths. Lots of scraping, try wetting to see if it helps. Skim coat the ceiling. -

Spray water liberally on a small area at a time. This makes popcorn soft and almost like joint compound used in dry wall applications. Scrape the ceiling with a wide blade knife. Best to cover the floor with a plastic sheeting to catch the residue. They do sell a blade with an attached plastic collector that might spare some of the mess. -
