What is the best way to remove popcorn ceilings?

Clear the room. Lots of drop cloths. Lots of scraping, try wetting to see if it helps. Skim coat the ceiling.Helpful Reply -

Spray water liberally on a small area at a time. This makes popcorn soft and almost like joint compound used in dry wall applications. Scrape the ceiling with a wide blade knife. Best to cover the floor with a plastic sheeting to catch the residue. They do sell a blade with an attached plastic collector that might spare some of the mess.Helpful Reply -
