For starters, make the question clear
Don't use nails on hardwood, pre-drill pilot holes and use screws so the wood does not split. Make sure and drill the holes so the heads of the screws will go down flat inside the wood, then cover the heads with wood putty and varnish the putty to match the rest of the wood. Good Luck!
