What’s the best way to affix ceiling tiles to a ceiling?

I love the look of paneled ceilings or tiled ceilings for my downstairs bedroom, but I hate the idea of them falling on me if the kids are playing upstairs ... so I’ve been putting it off. What is the best way to affix them to the ceiling?

I would use paneling adhesive
What finish is on the ceiling now, and when was the last time it was cleaned? That will affect how well the tiles adhere to the ceiling.
