Anyone identify this? It bloomed in mid October under my walnut trees.

I cannot find it on the internet. I live in southern Indiana 90 miles north of Kentucky.

I just googled wildflowers in Indiana and found that it appears to be a pale violet.

Doesn't look like a Pale Violet. Maybe check with your local Ag office. They can usually help you identify the plant.

The pictures aren't quite clear enough; but appears to be Euonymus, often called spindle tree, a genus of flowering plants in the staff vine family, Celastraceae. goes by many names; wahoo/burning bush/spindle tree. You can start your search there, look at images. hope that helps! I've always called it wahoo, here in MI.....

I really hope you find out what it is, as the exact same shrub? tree? grew at my mother- in law's house nest to a small creek. I really loved them. Definitely not a specimen planting as they're unruly, but lovely none the less!

I agree that it is Euonymous-a closer shot of the stems, leaves and fruit would help to narrow down the species.

Is this a vine or a "tree" like plant? A farther away photo might be helpful to see more of the actual plant. If it is a vine, my best guess is it is a wax plant which I have had and absolutely love the fragrance they emit. However, your blossoms look more like singular drooping buds rather than a big bunch together. Need a little more information me thinks. Local university extension office should certainly be able to help if nothing else. When I re-read your question, you said it bloomed OUTSIDE under your walnut trees. I was totally onto the whole indoor plant thing. Sorry about that.

Whatever it is, it's tough. Very few plants grow well under walnuts. The trees emit a substance called jug lone that prevents many plants from growing. Is this a prank?
