Can I plant lavender in barrel size planters and will the survive ?

I live near Albany NY. Will hardy lavender survive our winters in a large pot that is too big to move?

If it is a large barrel you may be successful, I would try it. My mother put a climbing rose in a large planter (in Ontario) and it thrived year over year....lavender is much hardier than the roses -

Yes, you can. As long as it has room for roots it doesn't need a ton of space. -

The roots growing down deep will be fine. The problem is the barrel...side to side...the roots can freeze. Maybe try wrapping the barrel in some sort of insulation That can be removed in spring. Good luck.
